According to the Ministry of Health’s Order no. 3262 from 19 October 2022, community pharmacists have been permitted to administrate the influenza vaccine. This Order is meant to facilitate access to vaccination and includes a guide of good practice and lists conditions that pharmacies must meet in order to be authorized to provide the vaccination.
Previously, only family doctors were authorized to administrate the vaccine. According to the National Immunization Programme, influenza vaccine is provided and administered for free by family physician to the population at risk as defined by the WHO, that is, including older people, chronic patients, pregnant women, etc.
The rest of the population can buy the vaccine from a pharmacy. Allowing pharmacies to also administer the vaccine is hoped to increase the vaccination rate, which at 8% of the general population (2021/22 season) is very low in Romania.
