Support to Presidencies of the Council of the EU
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) plays a vital role in guiding the work of the Observatory, providing a significant opportunity to engage with policy-makers and support their decision-making with tailored evidence.
The Council of the EU, an EU institution that convenes regularly in various policy-related configurations, has a rotating Presidency chaired by a different Member State every six months.
These rotating Presidencies provide the Observatory with a platform not only to present relevant evidence to and about the host country but also to assist the Member State with specific requests. This assistance includes providing tailor-made evidence and insights on their specific health policy needs and on health systems more broadly.
Examples include policy briefs in the areas of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) for Sweden and Belgium, Eurohealth Special Issues for France and Belgium, and a policy brief on EU tools to support the improvement of health and health systems for Slovenia.
The Observatory has supported several EU Presidencies in the past, including:

- Spain: Presidency (Jul-Dec 2023) website and Observatory’s Spain resources
- Sweden: Presidency (Jan-Jun 2023) website and Observatory’s Sweden resources
