Advanced practice nurses: A Royal Decree to define their competencies

05 June 2024 | Country Update

Advanced practice nurses have been recognized in legislation since 22 April 2019, but implementing decrees were still needed. On 29 March 2024, the Council of Ministers gave the green light to two bills of Royal Decree defining the competences of advanced practice nurses. The bills specify the clinical activities and medical procedures that advanced practice nurses are authorized to perform as well as the conditions under which they may perform them. This project is part of a wide-ranging reform designed to define different profiles of nurses for the future and make the profession more attractive.
