BeWell - A project to promote the upskilling and reskilling of the European health workforce

The BeWell project is dedicated to upskilling and reskilling Europe’s health workforce to meet the challenges of digitalization and sustainability. Equipping health professionals with digital and green skills ensures that healthcare systems remain resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible. The BeWell project fosters a future-ready workforce, ensuring that European health systems can meet emerging challenges while supporting broader EU policy goals and sustainability targets.

The European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies has contributed three core outputs to the BeWell project:

  • Policy Brief – Closing the Digital Skills Gap in Healthcare
Identifies the core digital competencies required by EU health professionals and maps out education and training opportunities— from continuous professional development to specialized certificates—designed to bridge current skills shortages.
  • Policy Brief – Green Skills for a Sustainable Future
Lays out the essential climate-smart competencies for a sustainable health and care workforce, highlighting innovative training programmes that embed eco-friendly practices across clinical and organizational settings.
