Overview
As the European Health Data Space becomes a reality, the need for a digitally skilled health and care workforce (HCWF) in the European Union (EU) is more urgent than ever. Digital technologies and big data are transforming care delivery and have the potential to improve patient outcomes, engagement, and health system resilience. However, significant gaps in digital skills and competencies among health professionals in the EU threaten to undermine these benefits. This article examines the challenges to digital up-and-reskilling, and how policymakers can overcome these barriers to prepare Europe’s HCWF for the digital age.
