Rethinking social contracts in a risk society

Overview
Globalisation, major inequities and modernity are bringing about major social transformation, which “detraditionalizes” societies. In consequence, social contracts that have their origin over 150 years ago no longer reflect the real-life experiences of people today. In addition, the security offered by these contracts does not align with the preferences of new generations regarding how they want to work and how they want to live. The impact of new technologies, the continuing burden of risk on women, and the crisis of climate change make it worthwhile to revisit the social contract and to be bolder in our proposals for change.WHO Team
