Cancer Plan IV (2017–2020) has been launched in February 2017, based on an agreement between the government, Danish Regions and Local Government Denmark. Since 2000, four cancer plans have been initiated and financed by the government to improve efforts in cancer treatment.
The 2017–2020 Plan allocates a total of 2.2 billion DKK and comprises 16 new initiatives, including the following:
- a responsible doctor assigned to each patient,
- a greater use of home-based treatment or treatment close to the patient’s home,
- the use of digital tools to strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration,
- faster pathways accommodating patient’s preferences,
- stronger efforts to prevent smoking among children and young people,
- improved quality in treatment,
- enhanced screening and early detection,
- increased rehabilitation, and
- respectful palliative efforts.
Implementation of the Cancer Plan IV will be monitored annually by the National Board of Health.
