Government of Ontario now recruiting, screening and employing personal support workers
11 February 2018 | Policy Analysis
Personal support workers (PSWs) are critical front-line health professionals in the home-care sector. In Ontario, Canada’s most populous province, PSW services have historically been privately delivered despite being publicly funded. In an effort to save costs, decrease private-sector reliance, and improve home-care client choice in selecting a PSW, the Ontario government created the Personal Support Services Ontario Agency to recruit, screen and employ PSWs. Interest groups, including Home Care Ontario and the Ontario Personal Support Worker Association, continue to express concern that this agency is creating an unnecessary bureaucracy that could compromise front-line home care.
