Partners

The Observatory is a WHO-hosted partnership and partnership shapes the way we work.

Partners include international agencies, governments, and others who understand how policy and evidence work in practice. Their diversity is a key strength that helps us:

  • Identify policy priorities across countries and constituencies so that we capture the spectrum of Europe’s policy needs;
  • Shape the way we respond so that the evidence we generate is policy relevant, clearly explained, accessible and focused on what decision-makers need to know to act;
  • Bridge the worlds of policy-making and academia, balancing dynamic trade-offs between analytic rigour and the need for fast, accessible and ‘applicable’ information.

Collectively they fund the Observatory and their experience (and their governance role in our Steering Committee) helps us to:

  • Define our strategic direction so that our work add value to public health in Europe;
  • Use our resources effectively to complement, rather than duplicate, the efforts of others;
  • Maintain quality and relevance (including in how we communicate and broker knowledge); and
  • Find entry points so that the evidence we generate makes a difference in practice.

Together WHO and the European Commission, national and regional governments, public health organizations and academia help mobilize the evidence needed to improve health systems and health policy, and help the evidence to have impact.
