In January 2018, the Federal Council implemented TARPSY, a lump-sum-based tariff system regulating the payment of inpatient psychiatry services. This system intricately associates treatments and services with specific cost-groups (PCGs) based on medical and economic criteria, remunerating through daily lump sums. Uniformly applied throughout Switzerland, TARPSY covers all aspects of inpatient psychiatric care for adults, with mandatory application in child and adolescent psychiatry since 2019.
Continuously refined since its inception, TARPSY releases an annual updated version, incorporating precise grouping logic, recent data, and adaptations to clinical practices and hospital settings. The PCG Catalogue complements this system by providing comprehensive information on evaluations related to cost-groups, ensuring compliance with TARPSY billing rules and definitions. Supplementary fee indications allow for the billing of additional fees in accordance with specified guidelines.
Crucially, the PCG Catalogue discloses the cost-weight for each day, determined by multiplying the length of stay by daily cost-weights, offering transparency in understanding the financial aspects of inpatient psychiatric care.
